Neurodiversity is a concept that recognizes neurological disorders as natural human variations. Instead of looking for cures they strive to encourage the value of neurological differences. However, this does not mean that they do not believe in proper care physically, mentally or emotionally, but that there should be a deeper understanding, better support systems, educational programs and a say in their own treatment.

Some goals for a neurodiverse community include:

  • Acceptance or recognition that people with Autism do not need to be cured.

  • Updated idea of what establishes normal or acceptable behavior.

  • Changing the way we think about terms like "disease" or "disorder."

  • More control over receiving treatment or therapy

Author John Elder Robison talks about neurodiversity in an article explaining its benefits and why we it is important.
